Covid-19 Community Response

Made In Bermondsey Shop

In response to COVID 19 local volunteers have been making 100% cotton face masks, in various sizes for children and adults; made from surplus Liberty textiles. Face masks can be found online or in store at Bermondsey Uprising depending on government retail guidelines.
For every mask purchased, we will give a free mask to a key worker in need, particularly carers looking after older people vulnerable to coronavirus in care homes or visiting. If you know anybody that can benefit from this let them know, we are here to help.

The Bermondsey Book

The Bermondsey Book is a 40 pages of Bermondsey-themed family activities including colouring-in, competitions, stories and games. We distributed the book along with a box of games and children's masks to over 100 children living in the area during the summer 2020. A big thank you to Galleywall Primary school and St James' Primary school for safely distributing the packs to local families.

The activity book is published by The Bermondsey Bookshop who provided working people from the factories and docks with a book club, free library and educational events for the first time. The Bermondsey Book featured writing by local working people alongside famous writers including Thomas Hardy, H. G Wells and Virginia Woolf.

The Makerspace

As a Southwark based charity, our aims include increasing self employment for those needing to work from home, particularly people who need to shield due to coronavirus and their families. We want to help more Southwark based people secure home based employment, having successfully been granted some COVID Response funding, we are excited to announce that a new clothing and textile makerspace will be arriving in 2021. We will launch with a free online sewing course with limited spaces. We want to upskill our network and community by offering workshops, workspace and support for creatives in Bermondsey and surrounding areas.
